Home House

Portman Square, London. UK

The Property

Occupying three grand Georgian townhouses in Marylebone's Portman Square, Home House is one of London's most glamorous members' clubs.

Initially designed by James Wyatt (before being replaced by Robert Adam) the buildings were commissioned by Lady Home, nicknamed the 'Queen of Hell,' and well known for madcap antics, 'irascible behaviour and lavish parties.' The Grade 1 listed building bustles with the decadence of its past and the energy of its present.

Home House has very few rules (although nudity is discouraged!) and 'naughtiness is de riguer, ' an ethos that separates the club from its more traditional London contemporaries. Rest assured though, Home House does share the rich architectural heritage and splendour of its Pall mall counterparts, boasting stone and marble floors, maple wood four poster beds, and sumptuous neoclassical interiors.

Members enjoy a range of facilities, including a variety of dining options, opulent lounges, and well-appointed event spaces. The club also offers a state-of-the-art gym, a wellness suite, and a conveyor belt of social and cultural events - making it a vibrant hub for fun-seekers and the party crowd.

The Challenge

Whilst the Home House vibe is relaxed, guest expectations are high - with each and every amenity needing to meet, if not exceed, the exacting expectations of the club's clientele. And naturally, a top tier TV system is a key component in the provision of a world-class guest experience.

Home House's headline remit was simple - modernise the system, make it better, make it reliable, add BYOC (bring your own content) functionality, but retain the core features and channel line-up.

Whilst the requirements were fundamentally straightforward, a complication arose in the form of the building's Grade 1 listed status - meaning any structural / aesthetic changes would need Listed Building Consent. The rules within the planning legislation would likely preclude any recabling work - meaning that the new TV system could not be supported by ethernet infrastructure.

The Delivery

ROOMNET was introduced to the Home House project by valued partner, AT&C (audio technology and communications). AT&C is a specialist in designing, installing and supporting bespoke audio-visual experiences for clients in the corporate, hospitality, and high-end residential sectors across the UK and Europe.

In conjunction with the results of AT&C's site survey and the relevant planning legislation hurdles, ROOMNET implemented G.hn (Gigabit home networking) technology, delivering an ethernet service over the property's coaxial infrastructure. This facilitated the implementation of gigabit-level communication over the existing network, and provides ultra-fast, reliable network connectivity - supporting bandwidth heavy internet usage across the property's 23 rooms.

Most importantly, G.hn negates the need for expensive and disruptive recabling projects - which of course involves structural work that wouldn't be viable at Home House.

Following the G.hn implementation and a series of cabling tidy-ups, AT&C connected ROOMNET's Apple TV platform to the 29 TV points across the property's 23 guest rooms. Each Apple TV was securely mounted on the back of the television display, and onboarded via ROOMNET's QR-based implementation system.

As requested, ROOMNET ensured all 99 of Home House's TV channels were retained (including a selection of international channels, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, and TNT Sports), these were categorised and listed by genre, providing quick and intuitive access to live TV services.

The completed TV system offers guests a watch what you want, when you want TV experience, supported by a curated selection of apps (stored directly on the TV - no need to cast!), and the power of the app store - allowing guests to download their favorite apps on the in-room TV - just like at home...

"Home House is a mesmerizing venue, and we're honored to have worked in collaboration with ROOMNET and the wonderful onsite team, to implement new technology in a property that's seen it all!"
Jonny White, Director of Sales & Marketing, AT&C
