Rasdhoo Atoll, Republic of Maldives
Having opened the very first resort in a once fledgling island nation, Universal Resorts are pioneers in the development of the world's most famous super-luxury destination.
Universal's portfolio of resorts (Baros Maldives, Dhigali Maldives, Huvafen Fushi Maldives, Kandolhu Maldives, Kuramathi Maldives, Kurumba Maldives, Milaidhoo Maldives and Velassaru Maldives) whilst diverse in nature, all offer a premium hospitality experience amidst powder sand beaches and azure ocean.
Located an hour and a half's speedboat ride from Maldives capital Male, Kuramathi Maldives is one of five islands situated in the tiny Rasdhoo Atol. Measuring 1.8km from tip to tip (but only a short stroll wide), Kuramathi is one of the largest resorts in the Maldives.
12 different room types are on offer across the island's 360 rooms, from simple (but luxurious) beach villas, to Thundi Water Villas, boasting private pools and a resplendent Indian Ocean location.
Perhaps Kuramathi's greatest draw is its scope to offer multiple amenities - including 12 restaurants and 9 bars - for up to 800 guests, whilst maintaining ample space and quiet for those that enjoy solitude and tranquility.
As well as an extensive f&b scene, Kuramathi offers countless activities and experiences, including a 7-day a week kids club, a variety of water sports, spa treatments, nature walks, tennis and for the romantics amongst us - a thriving wedding vows renewal service.
As is the case with most Maldives resorts, Kuramathi needed a premium TV solution to reflect its luxury hospitality experience.
Further challenges presented themselves as consequence of the resort's size, this coupled with the island's high occupancy rate created not just a technology implementation complexity, but required a portal that could house the sheer enormity of information that needed to be presented to guests.
ROOMNET and Kuramathi adopted a collaborative approach across the technology planning and implementation process, enjoying regular communication and the sharing of a vision. Together the two companies were able to agree on a system that best suited the resort's guests - whilst maintaining technical integrity.
ROOMNET visited the island (it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it) to complete a technical survey - especially important in this instance due to the many different room types, and the infrastructure issues that present themselves due to the remote location.
Having presented the survey results and agreed an implementation plan, ROOMNET devised a self-installation program, enabling Kuramathi's IT engineers to install Apple TVs in each room, connecting them to the island's ethernet infrastructure. ROOMNET's intuitive, QR-based implementation process facilitated this self-installation schedule, affording Kuramathi the operational flexibility to install TVs as and when possible.
ROOMNET worked with Kuramathi's marketing team to produce 200+ information pages, accessible via ROOMNET's proprietary hotel app. This allowed Kuramathi to ditch the paper-based resort guides and provide a handy, zero-footprint resort compendium on the in-room TV. QR codes were used for point and click access to Kuramathi's website, restaurant menus and miscellaneous resort information.
And of course, ROOMNET TV offers guests quick and easy access to all their apps on the in-room TV - just like at home.
