The Details
On 1st May 2024, ROOMNET commenced a partnership with climate impact partner, Carma, agreeing to plant one tree for every Apple TV sold.
In doing so, we strive not just to offset a portion of each transaction’s carbon emission, but also to contribute to the restoration and preservation of natural ecosystems, driving biodiversity, enhancing air quality, and supporting local communities.
Doing the right thing
Dare we say it, but life's more important than Apple TV. Hey, we love Apple TV! but we also recognise that our position as a global tech supplier means we’re responsible for a sizeable carbon footprint. We do our best to mitigate this (see our environmental policy here), but felt our efforts fell a bit short.
We need to do more than the basics. Our environmental policy is a good start, but (much) more drastic change is needed if we’re to contribute with integrity, doing our bit to help reverse the effects of climate change.
It’s this notion that underpinned our drive to find a suitable sustainability partner, leading us to the team at Carma.
About Carma
Based in Manchester, UK, Carma’s mission is to make a positive social and environmental impact through the planting of trees.
Carma partner with organizations, planting trees on their behalf and facilitating sustainability and carbon offsetting initiatives.
In the UK, all of Carma’s trees are planted by military veterans via The Green Task Force (a subsidiary of the UK Charity, the PATT Foundation), established to provide nature-based therapy for PTSD suffering military personnel.
Across the rest of the world, Carma collaborate with Veritree, a Canadian venture that connects businesses with verified tree planting projects, creating local jobs, sequestering carbon and restoring ecosystems.
Our legacy
We love being able to make the tiniest difference by planting trees in various locations across the world - we especially love the idea that these trees will long be standing tall and proud, outlasting our technology, and us!
Better still, as each tree increases in size, it becomes a bigger absorber of carbon dioxide. Our efforts to mitigate ROOMNET's carbon footprint will exponentially increase as time progresses.
Now, when we sell an Apple TV, we're pleased for two reasons....
Joining forces
We need to take immediate, sustained and transformative actions if we're to avoid a climate crisis. We hope that by sharing our own sustainability initiative, we'll inspire others to think about collective action.
